Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - Men's Lacrosse hosted Nichols in its season opener, just falling to the Bison in a heartbreaking 7-6 overtime loss.
The Bears were playing catch-up early on and well into the first quarter as the Bison scored at 13:02. Coast Guard as able to get shots off, but did not connect until there was just over four and a half minutes to go.
Eric Key got his first goal of the season and tied the game up at one.Â
Nichols answered and retook the lead with under three minutes left in the opening 15, making it 2-1 heading into the second.Â
Neither team scored for the majority of the second quarter, until Coast Guard tied it up at two with a goal by
Ian Feely with under for minutes in the half.Â
Coast Guard then got its first lead of the game coming off a score by
Noah Heller just 25 seconds later. Heading into the break, CGA was leading, 3-2.
The second half started with the Bears doubling their lead off a goal by
Max Silver.Â
Later in the quarter, Nichols got one back and cut Coast Guard's lead back to one with a score of 4-3.
Into the final 15, the Bears started off strong as
Ryan Hunter put them back up by two. Not long after, the Bison answered and cut the lead to one, once again. With less than five minutes to to go in the game, Nichols had tied it up at five. With less than a minute and a half to go, Coast Guard was down, 6-5.Â
14 seconds left in regulation, Silver got his second goal of the the game, tying it up at six and sending it into overtime. Nichols got the game winning shot as time expired.Â
Coast Guard will next play at Norwich on March 2nd at 1 PM.
