Box Score DANBURY, Conn. - Women's Lacrosse opened up the season on the road, defeating Western Connecticut State in a double-overtime thriller, 10-9.
The Bears struggled to get going in the first minutes of the game, giving up two goals early on just a minute apart. Despite the slow start, Coast Guard cut the lead in half off a goal by
Caitlyn Coates, assisted by
Addy Bass. By the time the end of the first 15 came, CGA was again trailing by two.
Coast Guard opened the second quarter cutting the lead down to one with a goal byÂ
Abby McAllister. Six minutes later, Coates got her second of the game and tied it up at three.
Western Conn. got the first goal of the second half before Coast Guard scored three in a row to tie it up at four and eventually take the lead, 6-4. The Wolves cut it two one before the Bears added another to make the lead 7-5 heading into the fourth.
The majority of the fourth quarter, the Wolves held the momentum. They scored four goals to go up 9-7. When it looked like the game was sealed, with 50 seconds left, Bass put the Bears within one. Down to the absolute last second of the game,Â
Abby McAllister tied it up at nine to go into OT.Â
Into overtime, each team traded shots before Coates sealed the deal for the Bears with her third goal of the night.Â
Coates and McAllister led the Bears in scoring with three a piece. Bass led in assists with two and
Mia Becker led in ground balls with three.
Coast Guard will next have its home opener on February 23rd at 5 PM against Bridgewater St.Â
