Men's Basketball Sets Program NEWMAC Win Record After Topping Babson

Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - Men's Basketball hosted Babson in the final regular season game, topping the Beavers in a second half comeback with a final score of 67-55.

CGA started off in a rut, unable to get shots to fall. They eventually got on the board a little over three and a half minutes into the game. Defensively, the Bears held the Beavers to only four points through the first four minutes.

Despite a tie in the beginning, Coast Guard played catch-up through the remaining 16 minutes of the first half. Once down by 10, the Bears cut it down the three heading into halftime, trailing 33-30.

The Bears turned the table in the second half, coming out with a new fire. They scored the opening four points in the back half. A three pointer by Elijah Parent gave CGA its first lead of the game. The two teams went back and forth a few more times before Jordan Frazer splashed a three to put the Bears on top for the remained of the game.

The offense of the Bears continued to knock down shots, going up by as much at 15 at one point. On the defensive side, Coast Guard shut down Babson in the second half, taking the ball away and blocking shots.

With the victory, Coast Guard set the record for the most New England Women's and Men's Conference (NEWMAC) games won in a regular season in CGA Men's Basketball history.

Parent led the Bears in scoring with 14, followed by Frazer, Cameron Brown and Mitch Shettles with 10 a piece. Bryce Vanderwiere and Brown led CGA in rebounds with seven a piece, while the latter led all players with six blocks. Frazer and Declan Rooney each recorded two steals while the team as a whole had eight.

Coast Guard ends the regular season with an overall record of 15-10 and a conference record of 8-8-. They will next compete in the NEWMAC Tournament on February 20th, with opponent and time TBA.
