Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Women's Basketball Team hosted Wheaton in its first conference game of the season, taking down the Lyons with a final score of 84-65.
Coast Guard outscored Wheaton in all four quarters, the most coming in the first when CGA was up, 25-16. The Bears went on a 6-0 scoring run to open the game, not allowing the Lyons to find the bottom of the hoop until nearly two minutes in.Â
The Bears held the lead for the entire game, the biggest coming at 19 points.
By time the first half was over, the CGA was already leading by 12 with a score of 45-33. Coming out of the break, it was more of the Coast Guard show, never allowing Wheaton a chance.Â
On the defensive side, Coast Guard kept Wheaton to only 26% shooting beyond the arc and 37% inside the pain.Â
Glory Blethen led both teams in scoring with 22, followed by
Kira Wood with 17 and
Dorothy Stotts with 16. Blethen also recorded six rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Julia Mann had eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.Â
With the victory, CGA now moves to 12-3 overall and 1-0 in conference.
Coast Guard will go on the road to face Springfield on January 17th at 7 PM for its second conference game of the season.Â
