Coast Guard Defeats MIT on Parent's Weekend

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Coast Guard Football hosted the MIT Engineers today in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup taking them down 36-14 on Parent's Weekend.

The Bears got on the scoreboard within the first five minutes of the game on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Joey Armentrout to Broock Desta. Then at just 0:23 left in the first quarter, The Bears would settle for three and Brennan Holt would kick a 20-yard field goal to give CGA the 10-0 lead.

At 10:06 in the second quarter, Brady Klein would rush for two yards for an Engineers touchdown. Coast Guard would only allow MIT to score once the whole first half.

With just under two minutes left in the first half, Armentrout hit Chase Denton for a 10-yard touchdown. The drive took seven plays and two minutes and twenty-seven seconds to complete. Going into halftime, Bears led 17-7.

The Bears received the ball to start the second half but would not be able to score on their opening drive. In the third quarter, neither team could seem to find the back of the endzone. Coast Guard's only points in the third would come from a 28-yard field goal by Holt.

In MIT's opening drive of the final quarter, Klein would rush for 1-yard to score an Engineers touchdown. This would be the last time the Bears would let the Engineers score for the remainder of the game.

At 7:36, Coast Guard answered back as Armentrout scored a 1-yard touchdown on a quarterback keep. The drive took up four minutes and twenty-five seconds and 10 plays to complete for a score of 27-14.

With just 2:55 left on the game clock, Armentrout would kick a 47-yard punt and CGA's Amr Baadani would down the ball at the one yard line. This would lead to a Bears safety as Solomon Ashby tackled MIT runningback Klein in the endzone.

To put the nail in the coffin, with just 0:44 left to play, Glenn Patrick would punch it into the endzone on a two-yard run. The Bears would ultimately top the Engineers 36-14 on Parent's Weekend.

Holt had a perfect day, making all four extra points and kicking two field goals, scoring 10 of the Bears' 36 points. In 29 completions, Armentrout threw for 371 yards, had two passing TDs and one rushing. While, Broock Desta had 207 yards in 14 receptions and one touchdown.

Coast Guard will continue NEWMAC play next week as they hit the road to play Salve Regina at 12 PM, next Saturday, October 7th.
