Bears Top Emerson in SPARS Game

Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - Today, September 29th, Women's Soccer hosted their annual SPARS (Semper Paratus Always Ready) game against the previous New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Champions Emerson College, beating them 1-0.

After the first half the score remained 0-0. However, the Bears out shot the Lions seven to three after the first 45. Emerson's goalie Amara Schuab had four saves in the first and Emily Scharnitzky, CGA's goalkeeper had one.

At around 15 minutes into the second, Emerson's Katie Wojcik crossed it to Simone Barragan-Shaw, but the officials took away the goal because Emerson received an offsides penalty.

CGA's Karagan Bulger then scored a solo goal to give the Bears a 1-0 lead at 26:54 left in the second.

The Bears would hold the Lions on defense and ultimately clinch their first home win and first conference win of the season. This is the Bears' first win against Emerson since 2017.

Bears improve to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in conference. Emerson drops to 3-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference.

Coast Guard will hit the road and play Springfield College next Wednesday, October 4th, at 7 PM.
