NEW LONDON, Conn. —
On Wednesday night, the United States Coast Guard Academy women's soccer team hosted the Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Bears remain undefeated with their win over the Leopards with a final score of 1-0. The Bears are now 2-1-2 so far this season, and the Leopards are 1-4-1.
Kick-off started at 6:00 PM ET, with Coast Guard having two shots on goal just ten minutes into the contest. The Bears maintained the majority of possession throughout the first half without being able to find the back of the net. This contest remained a stalemate at the end of the first half with both sides having control, but unable to find that final pass inside the box to their forwards.
What looked like a possible scoreless game changed when junior back Mary Arengo (Cincinnati, Ohio) stepped up to take a corner kick for the Bears in the 53rd minute. This ball crossed high and right into the box, finding the back of the net off of a Leopards player. Wentworth controlled possession for the rest of the game, but could not break their way through the Coast Guard defense.
This Saturday, September 19th, Coast Guard women's soccer will start New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play as they travel to Wellesley College for 1:00 PM ET kick-off.
