Box Score KINGS POINT, NY. - This evening, Coast Guard Volleyball faced off against non-conference longtime rival Merchant Marine Academy beating them in three sets, adding a point in the Superintendent's Trophy.
In set number one, Bears got up on the Mariners right away. They continued to dominate and would clench set number one 25-12. Coast Guard would have 10 kills in set one alone and three aces.Â
Set two was a close battle. The Bears scored first but found themselves down by two late in the set. CGA then tied it up at 23 and scored the last two points to take the second, now leading 2-0.Â
Kicking off the third set, CGA only needing one more to clinch the match, the Bears struck first. It was a back-and-forth battle through the first 11 Coast Guard points, but ultimately, CGA pulled away to take the commanding 25-11 win in the third.
The Bears had 36 total kills for the entire match.
Allie Wildsmith and
Sarah Somer led both teams with 10 kills each.
Maeve Duffin led both teams with 32 assists, while
Kaela France led with 25 digs.Â
CGA has now won five straight games and 13 consecutive sets, standing at a record of 8-1.
Coast Guard will take on Trinity College on the road on Thursday at 6 PM.
