NEW LONDON, Conn. –
Friday night, October 23rd, the Coast Guard women's volleyball team hosted Trinity College for a non-conference matchup. After a quick first set win, the Bears lost three sets in a row to lose 3-1.
Following this loss, the Bears drop to 12-7 overall, while the Bantams improve to 14-5.
The first set began back and forth until the Bears took a 13-7 lead. Coast Guard quickly increased their lead after a point by Trinity with a 6-point run to make it 19-8. The Bantams could not rally back from this deficit, and the Bears took the first set by a final score of 25-15.
Trinity College took the tightly contested second set 26-24 despite Coast Guard having more kills (16-12). Neither side was able to hold more than a three point lead on the other team this set.
The last two sets were not as close as the second, with the offense by the Bantams just seeming to click. They took the last two sets with the same final score: 25-19.
Standout players for Coast Guard included sophomore
Corey Lemmer (San Francisco, Calif.) with 13 kills, sophomore
Ava Ahokovi (Honolulu Hawai'i) who led all players with 30 assists, and senior
Courtney Shire (Cape May, N.J.) who also led all players with 27 digs.
The Bears will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, October 24th, as they will host Wesleyan University as the second half of the NEWMAC-NESCAC challenge. This match is scheduled for 12pm EST.
