Women's Lacrosse Defeats Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. --  Coast Guard Women's Lacrosse demolished Wellesley College today in New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play by a score of 15-1. 

Eight first quarter goals helped CGA improve to 3-0 in conference today.

Junior Sarah Skurat was the Bears' high scorer with four goals, freshman Abby McCallister had three goals on the day, Caitlyn Coates and Riley Shipman had two goals apiece. While senior Gianna Cascio had one goal and four assists. Defensively, sophomore goalie Maici Mintchwarner stopped two shots and had a pair of ground balls for Coast Guard.

The Bears got on the board quickly and kept up the offensive intensity all of the first half. CGA dominated quarter one, leading eight to nothing after the first 15. In the second quarter, Bears added to more to their lead for a 10-0 score going into the second half. 

Coast Guard led 13-0 in the third quarter before allowing Wellesley to get on the scoreboard. The Bears added six total goals in the second half, four points in the third and two more in the fourth for a final score of 15-1.

The Bears outshot the Blue 32 to 5. CGA picked up 25 ground balls while Wellesley had just 16. 

Women's Lacrosse plays at home next Saturday, April 8th, against Wheaton at noon.
