Box Score KINGS POINT, N.Y. -- Women's Lacrosse hit the road this weekend and just fell to Merchant Marine, 5-3.
Coast Guard got on the scorebored first within the first two minutes of the game with a goal from Caitlyn Coates assisted by Sarah Skurat. The Mariners tied up the score at 8:16, but the Bears would take the lead once again at the very last second of the first quarter. A goal from Gianna Cascio resulted in the Bears heading into the second quarter on top.
In the second quarter of the game, the Mariners would score four unanswered goals. However, in the third and fourth quarters, CGA's defense would not allow MMA to score at all.
About halfway through the final quarter, Gianna Cascio with an assist from Abby McAllister would score one last time for the Bears. Despite their effort, the Bears offense could not comeback from the deficit of the first half, and would fall 5-3.
Cascio led the Bears with two goals, while Coates had one. Coast Guard won more draw controls than Merchant Marine, but just could not get in their groove offensively.
Despite only scoring once in the second half, the Bears did hit the pipe six different times. The Bears outshot the Mariners 11-1 in the fourth quarter but just could not find the back of the net.
Defensively, goalies Devon McCue and Maici Mintchwarner both had four saves apiece in each half.
Women's Lacrosse looks to redeem themselves on their home field, Wednesday, March 15th, at 6 PM against Johnson & Wales.
