Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Coast Guard Women's Basketball dropped a road New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game to No. 5 Smith College, 86-57, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Bears drop to 11-10 (3-3 NEWMAC); Smith improves to 20-1 (6-0 NEWMAC) as they win their 14th straight game.
Freshman Dorothy Stotts led the Bears with 12 points followed by junior Lily Mika with seven. Julia Mann, Kira Wood, and Kelly Hagerty each added six points for Coast Guard. Stotts and Mann each had four rebounds for the Bears. Stotts added three assists, while Glory Blethen had two blocks.
A 13-5 run to end the second quarter gave Smith a lead it would not relinquish as it went on to defeat Coast Guard. The Pioneers outshot the Bears from the floor, 48.6%-38.7%, from beyond the arc, 34.5%-25%, and from the free throw line, 66.7%-58.3%.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday, February 8 as they head to Wheaton College to take on the Lyons in continued NEWMAC play at 7 PM.
