Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Men's Lacrosse kicked off their first game of the season today with an overtime win against 17th ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). The Bears took the Engineers in overtime for a score of 12-11.
In the first quarter, it was a neck and neck battle and both teams would have three goals apiece. The second quarter was much of the same; a battle and the score would be all tied up 6-6, going into the second half. Coast Guard would own the third quarter and would lead by four goals going into the final quarter. However, RPI did not go down without a fight and would tie up the Bears 11-11 from a Luke Murphy goal with just over two min left in regulation play.
The Bears could not get it done in the four regulation quarters so the game went to overtime. Less than two minutes into overtime play, CGA's #21, Caleb Holdridge, would score the game winning goal to make the Bears 1-0 to start their season.
Holdridge and #44 Taylor Gustafson would each have three goals a piece for the Bears. Ben Nocerito, Gaige Kruger, Ryan Hunter, Nick Butler, Gunnar Broduehrer, and Nick Castro would all have one goal each.
RPI would win more faceoffs, but CGA would have more shot attempts than their opponent (41-35).
