Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Coast Guard Women's Basketball lost to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Springfield College on Wednesday evening, 85-62, in the final home game of the season for the Bears. With the loss, the Bears fall to 12-12(4-5 NEWMAC); Springfield improves to 16-8 (6-3 NEWMAC).
Freshman Dorothy Stotts led the Bears with 18 points off the bench. Junior Kira Wood added 13 points, while classmate Lily Mika had nine. Sophomore Julia Mann grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go with her seven points and two assists. Senior Jacqueline Ward dished out seven assists on the night and added five points.
Coast Guard found themselves down early, giving up 28 points in the first quarter, and could not overcome the deficit. Despite holding the Pride to 14 points in the third quarter, a hot-shooting fourth from Springfield would give the Bears the loss.
The Bears outshot the Pride from the floor (42.1% to 40.9%) and from beyond the arc (47.1% to 42.9%), but Coast Guard gave up 21 offensive rebounds to give the Pride 25 second-chance points. The Bears assisted on 14 of their 24 baskets but gave the Pride too many opportunities to score.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, February 18, as they head to Emerson College in their final regular-season game at 1 PM.
