Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - Tonight, Coast Guard Women's Volleyball faced Clark in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Quarterfinal, dropping the Cougars, three sets to one.
In the first set, Bears dominated and led by as much as 13. Coast Guard had 15 kills in set one alone. They took set one 25-12.
Set two was neck-and-neck in the beginning. Bears tied it up at 9-9 from a
Sophia Galdamez kill. The score would be tied up once again at 15-15, and the Cougars would call a timeout. The Bears would just drop set two, 25-22.
Bears would trail 3-0 in the third set, but would come back and tie it up 6-6. After another nail biter of a set, Bears would take the third for a score of 25-22.
In set four, the Cougars would get on the board first, but then the Bears would score eight straight points to make it an 8-1 score. The Bears would keep up their seven point lead, forcing the Cougars to take a timeout at 14-7. After controlling the lead virtually the entire set, Bears would win it 25-16.
Galdamez led her team with 19 kills on the night followed by
Allie Wildsmith who notched 18. Kalea France led in digs tallying up 28 and
Maeve Duffin led in assists with 53 total. Wildsmith led he team in block with four, followed by
Elizabeth Atkinson and
Shannon Shaw with three apiece.
The Bears will move on to the NEWMAC Semifinals and head to Springfield, Mass. where they will face Springfield College at 1 PM this Saturday, Nov. 11th.
