Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - Volleyball took on Smith in their final regular season home game, defeating the Pioneers in three sets.
Every set started with the Bears scoring first. Coast Guard also did not give up a lead until the third set.
Set one, CGA pulled away at their sixth point. From there, they went on to lead by as much as 11. While Smith did close the gap, Coast Guard held on to the lead until the 25-21 lead.Â
The second set was all CGA for a majority of the 25 points. By the time Smith got its third point, Coast Guard was already at 19 points. The Bears did not allow the Pioneers to even hit 20 as they moved on to win the second set, 25-16.
The last set was the closest all-around matchup. The Bears scored the first three straight points, but the Pioneers stayed close for the whole set. There were five ties and two lead changes. Despite it being a close finish, CGA pulled out the win, 25-22.
For Bears led both teams in their respective areas.
Shannon Shaw had 14 kills,
Allie Wildsmith had eight blocks,
Maeve Duffin recorded 32 assists and
Kaela France led with 14 digs.Â
CGA now stands at 18-7 overall and 7-3 in conference.
Coast Guard will head on the road to face Clark on November 4th at 11 AM and SUNY Brockport at 1 PM.
