Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - This evening, the Bears hosted the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent the Wellesley Blue, downing them in four set.
In set one, the Bears took the lead out the gate. CGA would lead by as much as eight in set one. Wellesley would try to comeback in the end of the first set, but would end up falling, 25-20.
Set two would start out quite the same. Bears took a 3-0 lead and never allowed the Blue to jump in front. The set would end with CGA taking the win, 25-22.
The third set is where the match started to get interesting. The Bears found themselves down 3-0 to start. They were able to claw back and tie it at six, eventually taking the lead with the seventh point. Wellesley would not go away, however, and Coast Guard ultimately dropped the third, 26-24.
Set four was a back-and-forth battle with each team taking the lead multiple times. CGA was able to pull away to lead by seven and take the set with a final of 25-18. The victory secured the Bears the match, 3-1.
Sophia Galdamez led the Bears with 14 kills, followed by
Shannon Shaw with 10.
Maeve Duffin had 20 assists and two aces.
Kaela France recorded 20 digs on the night.
CGA now stands at 13-4 overall and 3-2 in conference.
Coast Guard will head on the road to face Brandeis on October 5th at 6 PM.
