NEW LONDON, Conn. - The first national rankings for the fall college sailing season were released this week and the Coast Guard Academy is among the elite teams in the country once again. At the completion of last spring's national championships, the Bears finished the year as the eighth ranked team in the country and have started this fall season where they left off.
The college sailing rankings, presented by SAILING WORLD Magazine are voted on by a panel of five coaches and one unaffiliated party representing each of the six geographic conferences across the country. Based on the performance through the first part of the season, CGA Sailing is ranked 6th in Open (COED) and 8th in Women's. Coast Guard Sailing competes in the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Conference (NEISA) which was well represented with eight of the top teams in the country.
The Bears have three weeks remaining this fall with Atlantic Coast Championships, NEISA Conference Championships and both the Singlehanded and Match Race National Championships.
