Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Coast Guard Women's Basketball lost 66-50 on the road to Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon. Babson improves to 15-1 overall, 2-0 NEWMAC with its eighth straight win; while Coast Guard falls to 8-9 overall 2-1, NEWMAC.
Sophomore Glory Blethen led the Bears with 16 points and two blocks, followed by junior Kira Wood with 14 points and four assists. Sophomore Julia Mann added 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Freshman Dorothy Stotts chipped in seven points, six rebounds, and two assists. Junior Lily Mika grabbed six rebounds and dished out one assist.
The Bears trailed by as many as four in the early going before using a 12-4 run that included back-to-back three-pointers by Blethen, a three-point play by Mann, and another triple by Wood to take their largest lead of the game at 17-10 with 1:44 to go in the first quarter. Babson cut its deficit to one on a pair of occasions early in the second and went in front 21-20 with 2:54 to go before halftime. Mann responded with four straight points for the Bears, but the Beavers made a three from the left wing to give Babson the lead, 26-24 at the half.
Babson went on a 10-0 run to start the third quarter, but the Bears scored the next 10 of 12 points to pull within four at 38-34. However, the Bears could not completely overcome the deficit and were outscored again in the fourth.
The Beavers outshot the Bears from the floor (35.9%-25.4%) and the free throw line (81.0%-76.9%) and outrebounded the Bears (55-36). The Bears shot better from three (29.6%-25%).
The Bears are back in action on January 25 at 7 PM as they host Clark in continued NEWMAC play.
