CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - - Coast Guard Academy Women's Basketball lost on the road to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent MIT on Wednesday night, 70-67. With the loss, the Bears fall to 8-8 (1-1 NEWMAC); MIT improves to 8-8 (1-1 NEWMAC). 

The Bears were led by freshman Farrah Peterein with 14 points, including four of five from beyond the arc. Julia Mann and Dorothy Stotts chipped in 11 points each. Jacqueline Ward and Glory Blethen had nine apiece, followed by Kelly Hagerty with eight. Blethen grabbed eight boards and Mann had seven. Ward had two blocks, two steals, and five assists. Hagerty and Stotts each contributed three assists.

The Bears, who pushed out to a 15-point halftime lead, found themselves unable to stop the Engineers runs in the second half. MIT outscored the Bears 19-12 and 24-12 in the third and fourth quarters. 

MIT held the margin in field goal percentage (42.2%-37.1%) and in three-point percentage (37.5%-36.8%). Coast Guard was able to force the Engineers into 13 turnovers. MIT out-rebounded the Bears, 45-39.

The Bears are back in action on Saturday, January 21 as they head to Babson College to take on the Beavers at 1 PM.
