Bears Comeback Falls Just Short

Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. -- On a day in which the Nichols Bison (3-0) and Coast Guard Academy Bears (1-2) combined for 985 yards of total offense and fifty-seven first downs, Nichols' defensive back, Derek Revolus, intercepted sophomore Joey Armentrout's pass into the end zone on the final play of the game, as the Bears fell just short of a 4th quarter comeback. The final score of the game was 37-33, Bison.

Coast Guard's final drive started at their own 35 yard line with just 1:34 left on the clock. As the Bears drove to down in an effort to pull off the comeback, they were aided by a pass interference penalty on Nichols in the end zone. Ultimately, Revolus' third interception of the day proved to be the most important, as it clinched the victory for the Bison.

Trailing 28-13 going into the fourth quarter, the Bears' running back, senior Spencer McMillion, had three rushing touchdowns of 5, 2, and 10 yards, respectively, with the final one coming in crunch time with only 2:47 left to play. For the Bison, who utilized two quarterbacks, Xavier Powell was 26/33 Passing for 296 Yards and one touchdown, while his fellow signal caller, Kyle Keckler was 7/14 Passing for 90 yards. Nichols totaled 386 yards through the air. Jack Morvan paced the Bison with six receptions for 108 yards while his teammate Kevin Pinheiro had 5 Receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Garrett Bragg totaled 10 tackles for the Bears, while his classmate, sophomore Tyler Jones had nine. Sophomore Ethan Lasher recorded an interception, while senior Andrew Schad recovered a fumble. For the Bison, Joshua Sayer recorded 13 tackles while Derek Revolus added 10 tackles to go along with his three interceptions.
