Bears Football falls on the road at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. --

Saturday afternoon, October 17th, the Coast Guard men's football team went on the road to face off against MIT. After an offensive battle in the first half, the Bears lost this game by a final score of 21-42. Coast Guard falls to 3-3 and 1-2 in the NEWMAC.

On the first drive of the game, the Bears marched down the field and ended with a 37 yard touchdown pass to Matthew LaBouliere (Pipersville, Pa.) to put them up 7-0 just over 2 minutes into the game. The Engineers answered right back when they got the ball with a touchdown of their own, as well as another before the end of the first quarter to give them a 14-7 lead over Coast Guard.

The run game seemed to click for MIT as they rushed for 269 yards on the day and started out the second quarter by rushing in their 3rd touchdown of the day. Coast Guard scored once more in the first half with another touchdown pass to LaBouliere. He finished the day with a season high of 87 yards. Following a quick 3-and-out by MIT, Coast Guard went on to go for it on a 4th and 1 situation on their own 27 yard line but could not convert. With 1:50 left to play in the first half in great field position, the Engineers ran right through the Bears' defense for another touchdown to make the game 28-14 at halftime in favor of MIT.

MIT was stopped on their first drive to start the second half,  but so was Coast Guard. The Engineers blocked the Bears' punt to give them another drive starting in Bears' territory. With just 4 rushing plays, MIT scored another touchdown to increase their lead 35-14. On the very next drive, Coast Guard marched down the field and found LaBouliere in the end zone yet again. LaBouliere scored all 3 of the Bears' touchdowns on just 4 receptions.

What seemed like a very uphill battle, MIT made sure there was no comeback as they scored another touchdown to start the 4th quarter making the final score 42-21.

The Bears will look to bounce back next weekend as they will head north to Northfield, Vt. for a NEWMAC contest at Norwich University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm EST on Saturday, October 24th.
