Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Taylor Pichel had a game-high five goals leading top-seeded Springfield to a 13-10 win over fourth-seeded Coast Guard in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) semifinals.
The Pride improve to 13-5 overall and advance to the NEWMAC championship game while Coast Guard closes out the season 11-7. The Bears had a school record seven game winning streak this season. Springfield beat the Bears 11-10 a week ago in New London.
Shannon Schmidt led Coast Guard with three goals while Katherine Pittman and Caitlyn Coates each scored twice.
Maici Mintchwarner (1-1), making just her second career start, made 11 saves in goal for Coast Guard and took the loss.
Springfield outshot Coast Guard 34-18 and the Pride held an 19-8 edge in draw controls.
Coast Guard struck first on goal by Gianna Cascio with 10:53 left in the first quarter.
The Pride, who led 4-1 after the first quarter, scored the next six goals for a 6-1 lead with 7:21 left in the first half.
The Bears scored the final two of the half as Pittman and Laine Weber tallied goals to make the score 6-3 at halftime.
Pittman scored again just 52 seconds into the second half as the Bears cut the deficit to 6-4. Springfield led 9-5 with 5:54 left in the third before the Bears scored the final three goals of the quarter, the last two by Shannon Schmidt to make the score 9-8 after three.
Martel scored back-to-back goals to start the fourth as the Pride opened up an 11-8 lead.
Coates scored a goal with 2:40 left as the Bears moved to within 12-10 before Pichel scored with 44 seconds left to put the game away.
