Bears Win Streak Continues With Win Over Wheaton

NORTON, Mass.-- Sarah Skurat scored five goals to lead Coast Guard women's lacrosse to a 17-9 victory over Wheaton in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action, extending the Bears school record win streak to seven. Coast Guard improved to 8-3 and 4-0 in the NEWMAC, while Wheaton dropped to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Skurat and Katherine Pittman each had five points as Skurat scored a career-high five goals and Pittman put away four goals and added one assist. Caitlyn Coates had three goals and one assist, Addy Bass and Brenda Anderson both contributed with two goals and one assist each. Madison Seguin added one goal and one assist and Mia Becker recorded a game-high eight draw controls.

Brooke Harvey led Wheaton with four goals. Lana Finnie and Darien Webb both added two goals apiece, and Avonlea LeBeau wrapped up the scoring for the Lyons with one goal.

After a 3-3 tie in the first quarter, the Bears opened the second quarter with a four-goal run, including two from Anderson, for a 7-3 lead. Finnie scored the only goal of the quarter for the Lyons, and Coates gave Coast Guard an 8-4 lead heading into halftime.

After trading goals in the opening three minutes of the third quarter, the Bears went on another four-goal run, including two from Skurat, as Coast Guard took a 13-5 lead. Wheaton scored back-to-back goals to close out the third quarter, cutting the deficit 13-7 heading into the fourth.

Coast Guard scored four goals in the fourth quarter, and Wheaton scored twice but the Bears maintained the lead to take the 17-9 final.

Devon McCue made six saves in the cage for Coast Guard in the victory, while Emily Oundjian made 13 saves for Wheaton in the loss.

Coast Guard outshot Wheaton 37-22, and both teams recorded 15 draw controls.

The Bears continue NEWMAC play at home on Wednesday, April 13, when they host MIT at 7 PM.
