Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Katie Martel had a game-high five goals as Springfield held on for an 11-10 win over Coast Guard in the regular season finale.
Coast Guard took an 8-7 lead with 10:28 left in the third quarter before the Pride scored four straight taking an 11-8 lead with 10:08 left.
Springfield improves to 11-5 overall and 8-1 in the NEWMAC while Coast Guard finishes the regular season 10-6 overall and 6-3 in the conference. The Pride finish in a three-way tie for first in the conference.
The Bears will be the fourth seed in the NEWMAC tournament and host fifth-seeded Wheaton in the quarterfinals on Saturday at noon.
Martel scored a pair of first quarter goals as Springfield led 5-3 after the first quarter.
Martel would score her third goal of the game to take a 6-3 lead just 23 seconds into the second quarter, but that would be the Prides final goal of the half as the Bears scored the final four goals, two of them by Addy Bass for a 7-6 lead at half.
Bass tied the game 6-6 on a goal with 6:28 left in the half and the Bears took the lead on goal by Coates with 1:28 left in the half.
Martel tied the game with 11:39 left in the third quarter and just over a minute later Brenda Anderson scored giving the Bears an 8-7 lead before Martel tied it with a goal with 7:47 left in the third quarter.
Jade O'Connor scored with 5:31 left in the third and Springfield led 9-8 after three quarters and she would score the first goal of the fourth quarter as the Pride took a 10-8 lead with 11:20 left.
Holly Rivers scored with 10:08 left pushing the lead to 11-8 before Gianna Cascio scored for the Bears with 8:20 left and Caitlyn Coates pulled the Bears to within a goal with 1:15 left.
Cascio led the Bears with three goals.
The Pride outshot Coast Guard 27-21.
Haley Moody (9-4) had four saves in goal for Springfield to get the win.
Devon McCue (10-6) took the loss for the Bears while making 10 saves.
