Box Score SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.-- Katherine Pittman and Gianna Cascio combined for six goals to lead Coast Guard women's lacrosse to a 17-6 victory over Mount Holyoke on Wednesday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Bears improved to 10-4 on the season and 6-2 in NEWMAC play. Mount Holyoke dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
The six NEWMAC wins for Coast Guard mark the most conference wins in program history.
Pittman and Cascio each scored three goals to lead the Bears. Laine Weber, Caitlyn Coates, and Katharine Rott all scored two goals apiece in the victory and Addy Bass, Sarah Skurat, Shannon Schmidt, Brenda Anderson, and Madison Seguin all recorded a goal each to round out the scoring for the Bears.
Allie Brown had four points for Mount Holyoke with three goals and one assist. Emma Legacki put away two goals for the Lyons, and Caroline Thompson added one in the loss.
Skurat got the Bears on the board 34 seconds into the game with her lone goal of the day. Coast Guard went on a four-goal run, including two from Cascio, for a 5-1 lead after the first quarter.
The Bears outscored the Lyons, 8-1 in the second for a 13-2 advantage at the half.
Coast Guard scored the opening three goals of the third quarter for a 16-2 lead. Mount Holyoke scored once in the third quarter, but the Bears had a 16-3 edge heading into the fourth.
Schmitt opened the fourth quarter with the Bears' 17th goal at 12:39. The Lyons scored three goals in the final quarter for the 17-6 final.
Maici Mintchwarner made three saves in her 34 minutes of play, and Devon McCue made two saves during her time in goal for the Bears. Emma Tower made 10 saves for the Lyons in the loss.
The Bears outshot the Lyons 32-16 and had a 16-10 advantage in draw controls.
The Bears are back in action at home on Saturday, April 23 at noon as Coast Guard hosts Babson on senior day.
