Bears Fall at Conn.

NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Nick Farnham led Connecticut College with seven points to a 19-12 victory over Coast Guard men's lacrosse on Tuesday night in non-conference action. The Bears dropped to 8-6 overall, while the Camels improved to 5-6 on the season.

Farnham led Conn with three goals and four assists. Jared Rainvile has six points from five goals and one assist, while JJ Ford tallied two goals and three assists. Aidan McAvoy recorded three goals, one assist and Gus Mazzocca put away two goals for Conn. Patrick Atkins, Jack Tenzer, Gus Williams, and Jack Gurney all recorded a goal for the Camels in the win.

Junior Caleb Holdridge led Coast Guard with seven points from five goals and two assists. Ryan Hunter scored three times and Taylor Gustafson had two goals and two assists. Ryan Flynn and Matt Flynn each scored one to round out the scoring for Coast Guard.

Ford put the Camels on the board first at 10:43 but Coast Guard answered with three straight goals for a 3-1 lead with 4:13 in the opening period. Rainville and McAvoy scored back-to-back goals to tie the game 3-3 for the Camels with just over a minute left in the period. Holdridge put away his second goal of the game with 45 seconds left in the period to give Coast Guard a 4-3 lead after the first.

Farnham sparked a six-goal run for Conn, who shut out the Bears in the second period for a 9-4 advantage at the half.

Mazzocca scored the opening goal of the third period for a 10-4 lead, but Gustafson and Hunter scored back-to-back goals to cut the Bears deficit to 10-6. The Camels scored two more in the period, and Coast Guard socred once more in the third quarter as Conn. held a 12-7 lead heading into the fourth.

The Camels outscored the Bears 7-5 in the fourth period to take the 19-12 final.

Junior goalkeeper Dan Lucas made 14 saves for the Bears in the loss. Will Rice made 13 saves for the Camels in the win.

The Bears won 22 of 33 face-offs, including 21 wins from senior Logan Tobias, who picked up a game-high 13 ground balls. 

Coast Guard is back in action this Saturday, April 23, when they host NEWMAC rival Springfield at 3 PM.
