Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Meredith Arterburn scored five goals to lead MIT to an 18-8 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over Coast Guard women's lacrosse on Wednesday night. MIT snapped the Bears seven-game-win streak as the Engineers improved to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the NEWMAC and Coast Guard dropped to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Arterburn had a game-high six points from five goals and one assist to lead MIT. Sydney Pyon tallied four goals and one assist, and Ellie Rabenold had three goals and one assist for the Engineers. Naomi Lutz recorded two goals, and Lindsey Gambino and Emma Tauckus each scored one apiece to round out the scoring for MIT.
Junior Gianna Cascio scored a team-high three goals to lead the Bears. Katherine Pittman and Madison Seguin each tallied two goals and one assist for Coast Guard and Caitlyn Coates added one goal and one assist in the loss.
MIT scored the opening six goals of the game, spanning through the second quarter.
Coates got the Bears on the board with a man-up goal at 10:25. Arterburn answered for MIT with one at 10:02. Pittman scored her first of the game at 9:33, but MIT scored two more in the quarter to take a 9-2 lead at the half.
Cascio scored her first of the game to open the third quarter with a man-up goal cutting the deficit to 9-3.
Goetz answered with one for MIT, but Pittman and Cascio added two more for the Bears, making it 10-5 with 8:38 left in the third. The Engineers went on a five-goal run to close out the third quarter and take a 15-5 lead.
Carlson opened the fourth quarter with a goal at 14:34, but Seguin scored back-to-back goals, and Cascio added her third of the game, cutting the deficit 16-8. Carlson and Tauckus added two more for MIT for the 18-8 final.
Sophomore goalkeeper Devon McCue made four saves in goal for Coast Guard, while Elena Boal made eight saves in the win for the Engineers.
Coast Guard outshot MIT 28-27, and both teams recorded 14 draw controls.
The Bears are back in action on the road Saturday, April 16 at noon at Smith.
