Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- Freshman Caitlyn Coates scored four goals to lead Coast Guard women's lacrosse to a 13-3 victory over Johnson and Wales, on the road on Wednesday night. The Bears improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 4-3 overall.
Coates led the way with four goals. Katherine Pittman tallied three goals and one assist, and Gianna Cascio added two goals and two assists for the Bears. Kira Howard put away a pair of tallies, and Addy Bass and Laine Weber rounded out scoring, with one goal each in the victory.
Taina Gamory, Margaret Johnson, and Ally Wilson each scored a goal for Johnson and Wales.
Pittman and Bass scored the only two goals of the opening quarter to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. Coates, Howard, and Cascio each put one away in the second quarter, taking a 5-0 lead. Gamory got the Wildcats on the board with 35 seconds remaining in the half to cut the deficit to 5-1.
The Bears opened second-half play with three more consecutive goals, including two, man-down goals from Coates. The Wildcats scored once in the third quarter at 8:45, but the Bears answered with two more, taking a 10-2 lead in the third quarter.
Gianna Cascio scored a goal coming off an assist from her sister, Gillian Cascio, to open the fourth quarter of play at 10:31. Johnson and Wales scored once more, but Pittman sealed the game with two goals to give Coast Guard the 13-3 final.
Coast Guard goalkeeper Devon McCue made 11 saves in the victory. Emma Crowley made seven saves in her 30 minutes of play for the Wildcats, and Emma Glyman made three saves in her 30 minutes for Johnson and Wales.
Coast Guard jumps back into New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on the road at Clark on Saturday, March 26 at noon.
