Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Coast Guard men's lacrosse took down Salve Regina 24-9 on Wednesday night for the Bears first win of the season. Coast Guard improves to 1-2 on the season while Salve opens up the year 0-1.
Taylor Gustafson, Logan Tobias, Ryan Flynn, Nate Gee and Gaige Kruger all scored three goals apiece to lead the Bears. Gunnar Brodfuehrer, Nick Butler, and Caleb Holdridge all added two goals each and Holdridge tallied a game-high six assists. Ian Feely, Matt Lubin, and Dan Zarillo all scored a goal each in the win.
Pat Leary, Liam Cooney, and Brendan Laundry all scored two goals for the Seahawks, while Rich Gneiding, Padraig Barry, and Max Beauchamp each tallied a goal in the loss.
The Bears opened the game with the first three goals before Salve got on the board at 10:30. Coast Guard answered with a seven-goal run, taking a 10-3 lead in the first period.
Coast Guard scored the first five goals of the second period with a 15-3 lead and had a 16-6 edge at halftime.
The Bears extended the lead 21-8 in the third period and ended with the 24-9 final.
Coast Guard won 22 of 37 face-offs and outshot the Seahawks 48-33.
Dan Lucas made five saves during his time in goal for the Bears and Matt Reheuser had two saves in the fourth period.
The Bears are back in action on the road at the US Lacrosse Complex this Saturday, March 5 at 1 PM against Grove City.
