Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Sophomore Sarah Skurat scored a career-high four goals to lead Coast Guard women's lacrosse to a 15-3 victory over Emerson to open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon. The Bears improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC. Emerson dropped to 4-2 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.
Skurat led the Bears with a game-high four goals. Addy Bass chipped in with three of her own, and Caitlyn Coates and Laine Weber added a pair for the Bears in the win. Shannon Schmidt, Katherine Pittman, Gianna Cascio, and Madison Seguin each scored a goal to round out the scoring for Coast Guard.
Jules Rein, Maddy Reyes, and Ainsley Basic all scored for Emerson.
Coast Guard scored the opening three goals of the game in the first seven minutes, with goals from Pittman, Bass, and Coates. Emerson got on the board at 7:09 with a goal from Maddy Reyes. The Bears added four more to take a 7-1 lead after the first.
Schmidt, Coates, and Skurat all scored in the second quarter as the Bears took a 10-2 lead at the half.
Coast Guard shutout the Lions in the third quarter, and added four more goals including, two from Bass and two from Skurat as the Bears took a 14-2 lead.
Skurat scored her fourth of the game at 11:00 in the final quarter and Basic scored the last goal of the game at 7:09 for the 15-3 final.
Devon McCue made three saves, and Maici Mintchwarner made seven saves as the duo split the time in the cage for the Bears in the victory. Nina Khosla had seven saves for Emerson.
Coast Guard is back in action on the road on Wednesday, March 23 at Johnson and Wales at 7 PM.
