Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Amelia Clairmont had a team-high 20 points leading Smith to an 87-57 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
The Pioneers improve to 17-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference while the Bears drop to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in the NEWMAC.
Kyra Hartman led Coast Guard with a game-high 22 points, her fifth game this season with 20 or more points. Emma Puddington (8 points) had a team-high five rebounds. Smith outrebounded the Bears 49-29.
Coast Guard was 25 of 70 from the floor (35.7 percent) and made three of 17 from 3-point range while Smith was 30 of 59 (50.8 percent) and connected on eight of 19 from downtown.
Smith scored 10 straight in the first quarter to take a 19-8 lead with 1:44 left in the quarter and the Pioneers led 24-12 after one and 42-31 at halftime.
Smith would close the third quarter on a 15-4 run expanding the lead to 63-43 and use a 10-2 spurt to start the fourth to put the game away leading 73-45 with 8:47 left.
The Bears are back in action on Monday night at Emmanuel in a non-conference game at 7:00.
