Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-- Sam Hourihan had a double-double to lead third-seeded Springfield to a 76-60 victory over sixth-seeded Coast Guard women's basketball in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) quarterfinal on Wednesday night. The Bears end their season at 13-11 overall as the Pride advances to the NEWMAC semifinal and improves to 22-3 on the season.
Sam Hourihan scored a game-high 24 points and a game-high tying 16 rebounds for Springfield. Angela Czeremcha also recorded a double-double for the Pride with 16 points and a game-high tying 14 rebounds.
Sophomore Kira Wood led three Bears in double figures with 15 points. Seniors Emma Puddington and Kyra Hartman both had 11 points for Coast Guard. Junior Jacqueline Ward and Hartman both grabbed seven rebounds apiece.
Springfield scored four three-pointers in the final 3:40 of the third quarter to take a 57-43 lead and never looked back. They finished the third with a 60-47 advantage.
With 4:13 left in the game, Czeremcha made a jumper to give the Pride a 16-point lead.
Puddington put away a three-pointer to tie the game 18-18 at 7:54 in the second before the Pride used a 12-3 run to take a 30-21 advantage with 4:10 remaining in the quarter. Springfield went on to take a 37-27 lead at the half.
Springfield shot 55.6% (10-18) from behind the arc and 28-68 (41.2%) from the field.
The Pride advanced to the NEWMAC semifinal on Friday at Babson.
