Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn – Katherine Pittman had three goals and a team-high five ground balls as Coast Guard scored the final 12 goals of the game en route to a 15-3 win over Bridgewater State in a constant rainstorm giving head coach Sue Behme her first win at the academy in the season opener for both teams.
Laine Weber had three goals while Kira Howard and Caitlyn Coates each scored twice all in their collegiate debuts. Addy Bass also added two goals in the win.
The game was tied 3-3 before a goal by Howard with eight seconds left in the first quarter gave Coast Guard a 4-3 lead after the first quarter.
Coates, Pittman, and Brenda Anderson also scored for Coast Guard in the first.
Gianna Cascio, Weber, Coates, Pittman, and Addy Bass all scored second quarter goals as Coast Guard scored all five goals in the quarter to take a 9-3 halftime lead.
Weber, Howard, Bass, Pittman, and Shannon Schmidt added goals in the third as Coast Guard increased its lead to 14-3. Weber scored the only goal in the fourth quarter.
Devon McCue picked up her first career win in her first career start as she made four saves.
Olivia Kerrigan started in goal and had seven saves for Bridgewater State while Brooke La Torra had two saves in relief.
Coast Guard outshot Bridgewater State 31-9.
Kelsi Brennan, Katie O'Brien, and Lindsay Brown all scored for Bridgewater State.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they host Endicott at noon.
