Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Kyra Hartman had a game-high 18 points in the final home game of her career leading Coast Guard to a 84-61 win over Emerson in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game, the regular season finale as Coast Guard celebrated SPARs and Senior Day.
Coast Guard improves to 13-10 overall and 5-5 in the conference while Emerson drops to 8-15 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The Bears will be the sixth seed and play at third seeded Springfield while Emerson is the seventh seed and play at second seeded Babson in the NEWMAC tournament which begins on Wednesday, both teams will open on the road in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
Emma Puddington added 12 points in the final home game of her career while Kira Wood finished with 11 points in the win. Hartman and Glory Blethen led the Bears with six rebounds each.
Chelsea Gibbons led Emerson with 14 points while Katie Beckmann had a game-high nine rebounds for the Lions.
Coast Guard shot 44.9 percent from the field (31-69) and connected on five of 14 from 3-point range while Emerson was 22 of 64 (34.4 percent) from the floor and made four of 21 from behind the arc.
The Bears jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game and led 25-15 after one quarter.
Emerson would not get any closer in the second quarter and trailed 41-27 at the break.
Coast Guard would close the third quarter on a 17-4 run to open up a 67-38 lead after three quarters.
