TROY, N.Y.-- Coast Guard men's lacrosse dropped the season opener 18-8 on the road at RPI on Saturday afternoon.

Trey Froehlich, Connor Glosner, and Tyler Nalls all scored three goals and had one assist each to lead RPI in the victory. Angelo Venuto and Cooper Urban added two goals apiece for the Engineers and four others added goals in the victory.

Junior Taylor Gustafson led the way for the Bears with three goals and one assist. Senior Nate Gee added two goals, and sophomore Ian Feely, junior Caleb Holdridge, and senior Logan Tobias all chipped in with a goal apiece for Coast Guard.

RPI scored the opening three goals of the game before Gustafson put the Bears on the board at 3:01. The Engineers had a 5-2 lead in the first period.

Gustafson scored twice in the second period and Tobias put one away as the Bears trailed 8-5 at halftime.

Holdridge scored his first goal of the season at 11:46 in the third period to cut the deficit to 9-6 but the Engineers ended the period with a 12-7 advantage.

RPI outscored the Bears 6-1 in the final period as the Engineers beat the Bears 18-8.

Coast Guard junior goalkeeper Dan Lucas made 11 saves for the Bears, while Rocky Bokavich made nine saves and Joseph Perry had three saves for the Engineers.

RPI was 20-30 in faceoff wins and had a 43-37 advantage in ground balls.

Coast Guard is back in action at home next Saturday, February 26 at 3 PM.
