Box Score BOSTON, Mass, -- The 25th ranked US Coast Guard Academy Men's Soccer team was held in check today by #15 Babson College in an afternoon New England Women's and Men's Conference (NEWMAC) game featuring two nationally ranked programs.
The Beavers utilized three different goal scorers and executed a well designed game plan in a match-up that stifled the Bears offensive output.
The Beavers first goal came in the 32nd minute of play, when Louis Gaza tapped in a beautiful header, assisted by Ryan Kim and Mitchell Collins on a cross from the left side. The headed ball just scampered across the goal, past Coast Guard goal keeper today, Josh Hudson.
Coming out of the break, the Bears did not do themselves any favors. A critical miscue by the Bears just three minutes into the second half led to a score from RJ Parrilla and gave Babson the 2-0 advantage. Later in the contest, the Bears would be questionably called for misconduct, leading to a Shamar Rainford score off a penalty kick. The Bears coaching staff was clearly confused by the call, but kept their composure as their team looked to gain valuable possessions with time ticking down.
Despite their upperclassmen bearing the load of getting an attack going, the Bears were unable to find the back of the net and ultimately dropped this game 3-0. John Flood and Charles Fish fired off multiple shots for the Bears with Micah Messner and Noah Engstrom also getting their opportunities.
Head coach Chris Parsons credited Babson for the play today, summarized in the following:
"We faced a very talented Babson side today. Credit to them for getting the first half goal. We were better in the second half, but careless on the second goal. The third goal was a mystery PK. We can't do anything about that."
That we cannot, but the Bears will look to rebound when they play next on Monday, October 10th, 2022 at 3pm EST at Norwich University. The loss drops the Bears to 7-2-2 (1-2-1 in NEWMAC), while Babson improves to 8-2-2 (4-0-0 in NEWMAC).
