Box Score BRSITOL, RI -- Sophomore Shannon Shaw led the attack for Coast Guard tonight as the Bears downed Roger Williams University in a non-conference match-up on the road.
Shaw led all players with 15 kills, while teammate Noelle Tursky was second of all players with 13 en route to a four set victory over the host Hawks team.
The Bears cruised to a 25-11 opening set win, before experiencing a bit of adversity in the second set. See-sawing back and forth to 5-5 in the second set, Roger Williams then jumped out to a 10-6 lead before Coast Guard clawed their way back into it, knotting the set up at 18-18 late. Roger Williams would use a late push to secure the set 25-21 and tie the match up.
After that, it was all Coast Guard for the remainder of the evening. The Bears cruised to a 25-16 third set win, before polishing off the match victory with a 25-20 fourth set win.
Tursky led the way with 21 assists, while junior Maeve Duffin was right behind with 20 for the Bears. Sophomore Kaela France also led all players with 20 digs in the game.
Coast Guard pushed their season record to 14-5 on the year, with only six matches remaining before the post-season. Four of those contests will be critical New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match-ups, however, as we enter a pivotal portion of the calendar. Roger Williams drops to 5-11 with the loss tonight.
