Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bears could not get anything going in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-15) loss to #19 MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday in both teams' last regular season match. With the loss, the Bears drop to 18-7 (5-5 NEWMAC); the Engineers improve to 22-5 (10-0 NEWMAC).
Shannon Shaw led the Bears with eight kills, followed by Noelle Tursky with six and Sarah Somer with three. Turkey added nine assists and Maeve Duffin eight. Kaela France led the Bears on defense with eight digs, while Laila Baameur and Tursky added five and four, respectively. The Bears had four aces, one each by Carmen Zipf, Duffin, France, and Baameur.
The Bears showed the most fight in set one, scoring the first point on a kill by Shaw and getting the lead at 5-4 on an ace from Duffin. However, from there the Engineers would take the lead and keep it for the rest of the set, despite the Bears coming within two at 11-13. MIT would eventually take the set, 25-18.
Set two showed promise for the Bears with the score tied at 2-2 until MIT went on an 11-1 run. The Engineers would win the set 25-10.
The Bears could not get an edge, with the Engineers starting set three on a 9-1 run. The Bears would drop the set and match, 25-15.
The Bears will continue their season next week in the NEWMAC Tournament. Coast Guard will play on Tuesday, November 1.
