Bears Fall to MIT at Home

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Christina Antonakakis led all scorers with 27 points to go with a game-high seven assists leading MIT to an 87-73 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

The Engineers improve to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Kyra Hartman led the Bears with 18 points, Kira Wood added 17, Jacqueline Ward 11 and Emma Puddington 10 to go with her team-high six rebounds.

MIT led 32-28 with 5:50 left in the first half when they went on a 15-2 run to open up a 47-30 lead with 47 seconds left in the half. The Engineers led 47-32 at the break.

Coast Guard scored the first seven points of the second half to make the score 47-39 with 8:27 left in the third. MIT led 65-51 after three.

MIT was 34 of 70 shooting (48.6 percent) and made 10 of 22 from 3-point range while the Bears were 27 of 70 (38.6 percent) from the field making 8 of 25 from 3-point range. The Engineers outrebounded Coast Guard 50-35.

The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they host Babson at 1:00.
