Box Score KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Amanda Dake had a match-high 12 kills and five aces to go with eight digs while Maddie James and Sophia Galdamez each had nine kills leading Coast Guard to a 3-0 win over previously unbeaten Merchant Marine.
Coast Guard won 25-11, 25-20, 25-19 and the Bears have now won three straight to improve to 6-3 on the season while Merchant Marine drops to 5-1 on the year.
It was sixth straight time that Coast Guard has beaten Merchant Marine and the win gives the Bears a 2-0 lead in the 2021-22 Superintendent's Trophy standings following the men's soccer win on Saturday.
Carmen Zipf led the Bears with nine digs while Lauren Hatfield added eight. Noelle Tursky had a match-high 38 assists for the Bears.
Coast Guard led 15-11 and would score the last 10 points of the opening set to easily win 25-11.
The Bears jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set. The Mariners would use a 7-2 spurt to take a 11-10 lead. Coast Guard held a 14-13 lead and scored five of the next six to open up a 19-14 advantage en route to the 25-20 win.
In the third set, Coast Guard scored five straight to erase an early 4-1 deficit and take a 6-4 lead. With the set tied 11-11 the Bears ran off five of the next six for a 16-12 advantage and never looked back winning 25-19.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they open up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Babson at 12:30.
