Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Caleb Holdridge had a career-high tying seven goals while Will Iorio added four goals and four assists leading top-seeded Coast Guard to a convincing 20-4 win over #4 Wheaton in the semifinals of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament.
The Bears, who improved to 4-0 on the season, will host the winner of Babson/Clark, which is being played tonight, in the NEWMAC championship game on Saturday. It will be the third straight NEWMAC championship game appearance for Coast Guard which lost to Springfield in both 2018 and 2019, there was no championship game last season.
Coast Guard, in its seventh season of NCAA lacrosse, will be seeking its first NEWMAC championship and automatic NCAA tournament berth.
Holdridge had three goals in the first quarter as Coast Guard led 8-2 after the first quarter. He would score the last two goals of the first quarter and the first goal of the second quarter. The Bears outscored Wheaton 3-0 in the second for an 11-2 halftime lead.
He would score three of the first four goals in the second half as the Bears scored all five third quarter goals and led 16-2 after three en route to the 20-4 win.
Taylor Gustafson had a career best three goals while Conor Rowan tied his career-high with three goals for Coast Guard in the win.
Dan Lucas (4-0) made 15 saves to get the win in goal for the Bears.
Neal Canastra made 26 saves in net for Wheaton.
