Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Georgia Salvatore and Claudia Dodge combined for eight goals to lead Babson to a 14-6 victory over Coast Guard women's lacrosse in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) semifinal on Saturday night. The Bears season ends at 3-1, while Babson (3-1) will advance to the NEWMAC Championship against Springfield next weekend.
After almost nine minutes of scoreless play to open the game, freshman Jenna Lesiewicz found senior Haley McCue to get the Bears on the board first with a 1-0 lead at 21:51. Babson answered with a five-goal run throughout the first half, starting with Georgia Salvatore at 20:55 and ending with Salvatore's second of the game at 6:05 for a 5-1 lead. Senior Etta Davis found freshman Addy Bass who put away her first goal of the game at 4:53, during a man-down situation, cutting the Bears deficit to 5-2.
Salvatore and Dodge combined for the final two goals of the half, extending Babson's lead 7-2.
Bass and senior Haley Howard put away two quick goals for the Bears to open the second half of play, cutting the deficit to 7-4. Juliana McGuire answered for Babson, with her only goal of the game at 27:41. Senior Mary Ellis Goins took advantage of a turnover in the midfield and found sophomore Brenda Anderson to put away her third goal of the season, bringing the Bears within three (8-5) at 25:29.
Babson went on a five-goal run with five different goal scorers, extending their lead to 13-5. Bass found the back of the net with 3:19 left, but Dodge scored the final goal of the game, securing the 14-6 final for Babson.
Senior goalkeeper Mary Budri made a season-high 11 saves with two caused turnovers and two ground balls for the Bears. Cricket Fligor made five saves for Babson and improved to 2-1 on the season.
Babson held a 13-8 advantage in draw controls and outshot Coast Guard, 30-16.
Babson will travel to Springfield in the NEWMAC women's lacrosse championship, a rematch of the 2019 championship.
For the first time in program history, Coast Guard finished the season as co-regular season champions and hosted their first ever NEWMAC semifinal game.
