Howard Notches 100th Point in Bears Regular Season Finale

NORTON, Mass.-- Senior Haley Howard tallied her 100th career point as Coast Guard women's lacrosse defeated Wheaton 15-12 in their last regular season New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game of the season. The Bears end the regular season at 3-0, while Wheaton finishes at 2-3.

Freshman Addy Bass scored a game-high five goals along with one assist for the Bears. Howard added four goals and two assists. Freshman Jenna Lesiewicz had two goals and one assist. Junior Katherine Pittman put away one goal. Senior Haley McCue, sophomore Gianna Cascio, and freshman Sarah Skurat all tallied one goal and one assist each.

Emma Ford, Jessie Kilburn, and Danielle Trudeau each had a hat trick for the Lyons. Brooke Harvey added a goal and three assists, Casey Kaplan and Avonlea LeBeau both put away a goal each for Wheaton.

Bass and Pittman put the Bears on the board first with back-to-back goals in the opening five minutes of play to jump to a 2-0 lead. Wheaton tallied their first of the game as Brooke Harvey found LeBeau to cut the lead in half at 23:00. Lesiewicz put away her first of the game on a free-position goal at 22:15 to give the Bears a 3-1 advantage.

Wheaton went on a four-goal run from 21:11 to 18:26 to take their only lead of the game, 5-3. Coast Guard answered with a four-goal run of their own, as the Bears regained a lead, 7-5 with under 10 remaining in the half. At 8:56, Harvey brought the Lyons within one,7-6 but Cascio and Bass added two more to extend the Bears lead, 9-6. Kilburn put away one for Wheaton at 4:08 to make it 9-7 at the half.

The Bears opened the half with a six-goal run, taking a 15-7 lead, including Howard's 100th career point, coming from her third goal of the game at 23:42. Wheaton closed out the game with a five-goal run but Coast Guard held onto the lead for the 15-12 final.

Senior Mary Budri made nine saves in between the pipes for the Bears to improve to 2-0 on the season. Classmate Rebecca Dolan recorded one save in her 12 minutes of play.

Emily Oundjian, Jena Casman, and Emily Kelly all split time in the cage for the Lyons.

Coast Guard had a 15-14 advantage in draw controls, ground balls 27-26, but Wheaton outshot the Bears 32-29.

The Bears are the second seed in the NEWMAC tournament and will host Babson next Saturday, April 24.
