Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Sophomore Caleb Holdridge had six goals and two assists to lead Coast Guard men's lacrosse to a 19-12 victory over Clark in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon. The Bears are now 2-0 on the season and in conference play. Clark drops to 0-2 overall and in the NEWMAC.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Lucas had a career-high 16 saves in the victory in between the pipes for the Bears.
Senior Matty Johnson added four goals for Coast Guard and classmate Will Iorio tallied three goals and four assists. Sophomore Gaige Kruger had a pair of goals and assists. Senior Conor Rowan and sophomore Gunnar Brodfuehrer added a goal each for the Bears.
Chris Rasco had a team-high five goals to lead the Cougars. Jacob Brandes and Owen Lamerson both added a pair of goals for Clark and Bobby Philbin, Quincy Milton III, and Tommy McCarthy capped off scoring for Clark with a goal each.
Coast Guard opened the game with back-to-back goals from Johnson and Holdridge. Clark answered with three of their own to take their only lead of the day, 3-2. Iorio and Johnson added two goals to take back the lead to end the first quarter 4-3.
The Bears dominated the second quarter, only allowing one goal. Coast Guard put away seven goals to take an 11-4 lead at the half.
Holdridge and Johnson added two more for the Bears to open the second half with a 13-4 advantage. Clark added three more goals in the third quarter but Coast Guard took a 16-7 lead.
Clark opened the fourth quarter with four goals in six minutes to cut their deficit, 16-11. Holdridge and Iorio combined for three goals in the fourth to extend the lead to 19-11. With three seconds remaining, Clark scored the last goal of the game for the 19-12 final.
Ryan Mickelson had seven saves for Clark in 43 minutes of play and Dylan Harloff made two saves in the remaining minutes of the game.
The Bears had a 52-43 advantage in shots. Clark won 22-34 faceoffs and held a 34-35 edge in ground balls.
The Bears are back in action at home next Saturday, April 17 at 1 PM as they host Wheaton for senior day.
