Bears Fall at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Zachary Levy carried 19 times for 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns leading WPI to a 38-6 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

WPI improves to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 2-7 and 0-5 in conference play.

The Engineers finished with 457 yards of total offense, 283 rushing and 174 passing while Coast Guard had 252 total yards, 141 passing and 111 rushing.

Joe Armentrout was 15 of 30 for 141 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Jared Colletti led the Bears on the ground with 16 carries for 77  yards.

Jacob Wagner had four receptions for 66 yards and his first career touchdown.

Coast Guard had a pair of costly turnovers inside the WPI 5-yard line, one in each half as the Bears turned the ball over three times in the loss and WPI did not turn the ball over. 

The Engineers scored touchdowns on each of its first two possessions as Olexa and Cain hooked up both times. It was an 18-yard strike with 8:46 left in the first quarter and an 8-yard touchdown pass with 8:25 left in the half.

Bryce Wade kicked a 24-yard field with 42 seconds left in the half on the Engineers third possession for a 17-0 halftime.

Levy would score on a 44-yard run on the opening possession of the second half as WPI pushed the lead to 24-0 with 12:43 left in the third.

The Bears would get on the board when Armentrout threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Wagner with 9:54 left in the third, the extra point was blocked making the score 24-6.

Levy would add another 44-yard touchdown run with 3:42 left in the third.

Andrew Nicklas had a 9-yard touchdown pass to Joe Coutcher with 12:26 left to make the score 38-6.

The Bears will close the season when they host Merchant Marine on Saturday at noon in the annual battle for the Secretaries' Cup at noon.
