Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.-- MIT swept Coast Guard volleyball 3-0 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) semifinal at Babson on Saturday evening. Coast Guard, the third seed in the tournament, dropped to 17-8 overall while the second-seeded Engineers improved to 25-3 overall and will take on the number five seed, Springfield in the NEWMAC championship match tomorrow afternoon.
The Engineers won 25-23, 25-14, and 25-19.
Sophia Galdamez led the Bears with nine kills and Amanda Dake added eight. Kaela France led Coast Guard defensively with 18 digs and Noelle Tursky added 28 assists for the Bears.
Down by two, 7-5, the Bears went on a four-point run to take a 9-7 lead in the opening set. The Engineers tied it 11-11 and went on a four-point run of their own, taking a 14-11 lead. MIT took another four-point lead at 21-17 but the Bears cut the deficit by two in the end as the Engineers took the first set, 25-23.
MIT scored seven straight points to take a 23-12 lead, before taking the second set 25-14 with a 2-0 advantage.
Coast Guard opened the third set with a 9-3 lead. MIT tied the set at 14-14 and went on to take an 18-16 lead. The Engineers would go on a six-point run to extend their lead and take the third and final set 25-19.
