Box Score SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Amanda Dake hit .526 and had a match-high 13 kills to go with 10 digs while Sophia Galdamez added 12 kills leading Coast Guard to its sixth straight win, a 3-1 win over Mount Holyoke in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
The Bears won 25-15, 25-17, 20-25, 25-12 to improve to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the NEWMAC while Mount Holyoke drops to 3-11 overall and 0-7 in conference action. The 5-1 start in conference play is the Bears best NEWMAC start since beginning the 2014 season 5-1.
Destiny Johnson added a season-high eight kills while Noelle Tursky led the Bears with a match-high 31 assists. Kaela France led Coast Guard with a team-high 15 digs while Carmen Zipf added 11 in the win.
Coast Guard led 8-3 in the opening set before the Lyons used a 5-1 spurt cutting the deficit to 9-8. The Bears answered with their own 5-1 run pushing the lead to 14-9. Coast Guard would score nine of the final 10 points of the set for the 25-15 win.
In the second set, the Lyons had an early 9-5 lead before Coast Guard ran off eight straight and 11 of the next 12 points to take a 16-10 lead. Coast Guard led 22-12 before Mount Holyoke scored five of the next six to make the score 23-15, but the Bears won it 25-17.
Mount Holyoke held a slim 9-8 lead in the third before a 7-1 run gave the Lyons a 16-9 lead and never looked back winning 25-20 to force a fourth set.
Coast Guard took a quick 6-2 lead in the fourth and would later use a 7-2 spurt taking a 17-9 lead. The Bears would close out the match by scoring seven of the final eight points for the 25-12 win.
The Bears are back in action on Friday night in a non-conference game at Tufts at 6:00.
