Bears Pick up Huge OT Win at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. – Breanna Wood had a team-high 18 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, one of six Bears in double figures as Coast Guard held off Clark 90-85 in overtime for a much needed New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win.

The Bears improve to 15-9 overall and 4-5 in the NEWMAC keeping their conference tournament hopes alive while Clark drops to 5-18 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Jacqueline Ward added 16 points, Emma Puddington had 15, Kyra Hartman 14, Branyelle Carillo 13 points and Annabella Farabaugh added 11 points in the win for Coast Guard.

Puddington sent the game to overtime with a jumper in the lane as time expired in regulation.

Emily Sifferlen had a game-high 32 points to lead Clark.

Coast Guard shot 33.7 percent in the win (32 of 95) and made eight of 33 from 3-point range (24.2 percent). Clark was 31 of 76 (40.8 percent) while connecting on seven of 21 from behind the arc.

Clark led 8-7 with 4:33 left in the first quarter before Coast Guard scored eight straight and the Bears led 15-10 after one quarter. The Bears held a 24-9 edge on the boards in the opening quarter, but turned it over 10 times. Wood led the Bears with seven points and 11 rebounds in the first quarter.

The Bears led 17-12 before the Cougars pulled even at 17-17 with 6:42 left in the opening half. Clark used an 8-2 run to end half taking a 35-32 lead at the break.

Coast Guard, which missed all 10 of its treys in the first half, got trifectas from Hartman and Farabaugh to start the second half to take a 38-35 lead 73 seconds into the half. The Bears started the half with a 10-1 run capped on back-to-back layups by Puddington to take a 42-36 lead. Coast Guard led 56-54 after three quarters.

Clark tied the game 71-71 on a basket by Ginny Benbow with 30 seconds left and took its first lead of the fourth quarter 73-71 on a pair of free throws by Sifferlen with eight seconds left.

Puddington's jumper in the lane as time expired sent the game to overtime.

In the extra session, Ward gave the Bears the lead for good 82-81 on a trifecta with 1:48 left. Puddington made a pair of free throws with 31 seconds left and Ward added a pair with 15 seconds left giving Coast Guard an 88-83 lead.

The Bears close out the regular season on Saturday when they host Babson for Senior Day at 3:00.
