Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Jack Pope had a season-high four goals as Coast Guard ran its school record winning streak to eight with a 17-10 win over MIT in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Ryan Gochar had a career-high three goals while Benner Geurtsen also had three goals for Coast Guard which improves to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the NEWMAC.
Aidan Westley had a team-high three goals to go with two assists for MIT which drops to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in NEWMAC action.
Coast Guard would score five straight goals in the first quarter to take a 6-1 lead with 56 seconds left. Gochar had the first and last goal in the 5-0 spurt. The Bears led 6-2 after the first quarter and 9-4 at halftime.
The Bears would outscore MIT 3-1 in the third quarter for a 12-5 lead.
Coast Guard would put the game away with four consecutive goals in the fourth for a 16-6 lead with 8:35 left.
Conor Rowan also had two goals in the win for the Bears while Liam Miller added a pair of goals for MIT.
Trey Johnson (9-2) made seven saves to get the win in goal for Coast Guard while Lukas Drexler-Bruce (6-4) made several outstanding saves and finished with 14 saves in taking the loss.
Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday night when the Bears travel to Springfield for a rematch of the 2018 NEWMAC tournament championship game with faceoff set for 7:30.
